IMSL Journal of Management.

Introduction
In 2003 the institute of Management of Sri Lanka
initiated the publication of an international journal dedicated to the
promotion of excellence in management. The members of the Editorial
Board are from around the world, both academics and professionals in
the field of management.
The journal is one of the major means by which the
institute hopes to build the capacity of individuals and organizations
to contribute towards improvement of management. It is a platform for
sharing of new knowledge on all aspects of management.
Name
The journal will be known as the IMSL Journal of
Management.
Aim of the Journal
The aim of the Journal is to promote professionalism in
all branches of management based
on a sound body of knowledge. Such professionalism will lead to a
society that is characterized by efficient, humane and well managed
organizations and institutions that adhere to the highest standards of
ethical and professional behavior.
Objectives
The IMSL Journal of Management is launched to achieve the following
objectives:
§ Provide a platform for sharing knowledge on cutting
edge issues in management
§ Provide critical assessment of management issues.
§ Share information on new publications through
solicited reviews of papers and books
§ Create awareness of standards of conduct for
professional advancement of managers.
Guidelines for paper writers
1. All papers submitted should be typed double-spaced
on one side only (including footnotes, references and appendices).
2. The names of authors should not appear on any of the
pages of the manuscript. A title page that includes the title of the
paper, name of authors, and the addresses of the authors need to be
attached. The title of the manuscript should be typed on the first
page of the paper
3. The length of the manuscript should be limited to 10
– 12 pages of double spaced typed material. This includes the text,
figures, tables, and list of references.
4. An abstract of 150 – 200 words should be submitted
with each copy of the paper.
5. Footnotes should be used sparingly. Material of
importance should be incorporated into the text. Material having weak
relevance should be deleted.
6. References to articles, books, and other sources
should be cited in the text by noting in parenthesis the last name of
the author, the year of publication, and page numbers when
appropriate. Do not use “ibid.,” “op.cit.,” or “loc.cit.”; specify
subsequent citations to the same source in the same way as the first
citation.
Example to follow: If the author's name is in the text, follow it with
the year in parenthesis. [‘…Perera, (1987) analysed ….”} If the
author's name is not in the text, insert it and the year in
parenthesis, separated by semicolons [“(e.g., Thompson, 1967: Perrow,
1986).”].
7. The paper should be presented with a clear
structure, subtitled (i) Introduction and background (ii) Objectives
(iii) Methods (iv) Findings & Discussion (v) Conclusions and
Recommendations (vi) References (vi) Acknowledgements (if any).
8. Where primary data is used, the author(s) must
clearly present the research propositions and hypothesis, measures,
sampling procedures, and analytical tools.
9. A list of references should be attached to the
paper, single spaced, arranged in alphabetical order of the last name
of the first author.
10. Illustrations if any should be submitted in
separate sheets of paper
11. Four copies of manuscripts should be sent for
review to the editor, IMSL Journal of Management, IMSL, SLAAS Head
Quarters, Vidya Mandiraya, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 7. Manuscripts
should be sent under registered cover.
Copyrights
The authors must obtain written permission and submit such evidence, from those holding copyrights, if material from such sources is used.
Electronic submissions
Papers may be submitted via email to the IMSL address. However, authors are advised to send a hard copy of the manuscript under registered cover.
Correspondence
The Editorial board will conduct all correspondence with the first author. The first author should inform the editorial panel, contact information such as the mailing address, phone and fax numbers and the email address.
Originality
The editors will accept papers of original works only. Authors should, in their cover letter, indicate that the submissions have not been accepted by any other journal and that the work is original. However, any replication on new subjects of an original study is accepted for publication.
Editorial board
The Council of the Management Institute of Sri Lanka will appoint members to the board of editors. Each member will serve a term of two years. Any extension of service needs to be made as a fresh appointment by the council. The composition of the Editorial Board must reflect a balanced representation of academic and practical management expertise.
Working Principles for the Editorial Board
The editorial board will be guided by the following working principles.
i. The members shall strictly adhere to maintaining confidentiality of papers received and those who are identified to review.
ii. No member shall quote or use information presented in a paper for review until they are published and any such use duly acknowledged.
iii. All manuscripts received should be acknowledged
iv. The members of the editorial board will do their utmost to constantly improve the quality and standard of the information presented in the journal.
v. They will not be unfairly biased and subjective in their assessment of submissions received and reviewed.
vi. Any conflict of interests should be brought to the notice of all other members of the board in writing at the first instance of knowledge of such situations.
vii. The other members will process submissions made by any member of the board, and the reviewers kept confidential.
Calling for Papers – IMSL Journal of Management
The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) has initiated to publish an internationally refereed journal in management. The members of the Editorial Board are from around the world. Both academics and professionals in the field of business and management will serve in the Board. The aim of the journal is to promote professionalism in all branches of management based on a sound body of knowledge. The IMSL believes such professionalism will lead to a society that is characterized by efficient, humane and well-managed organizations and institutions that adhere to the highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour. The main objectives of the journal are to:
§ Provide a platform for sharing knowledge on cutting edge issues in management
§ Provide critical assessment of management issues
§ Share information on new publications through solicited reviews of papers and books
§ Create awareness of standards of conduct for professional advancement of managers and academics
The journal has been named as IMSL Journal of Management.
Hereby the Editorial Board of the IMSL solicits research or review articles for its Journal. The first volume will be published in April 2004, subsequently the Institute will publish two issues annually and we hope to provide reading material of the highest quality.

The papers should reach the institution or editorial office on or before 31st December 2003. The guidelines for paper writers are enclosed herewith.
